OELAN BATOR - In de koudste hoofdstad ter wereld zette zaterdag het
nationale voetbalteam van de Malediven de eerste stap richting het WK van
2006. Het team uit de tropische eilandengroep aan de evenaar versloeg bij
een temperatuur van 16 graden onder nul gastland Mongolië. De meeste
spelers van de bezoekers zagen voor het eerst sneeuw. De delegatie van de
Malediven bestond uit slechts vijftien spelers, om bij voorbaat blessures

De vereniging krijgt vaak verzoeken binnen van mensen in Nederland die
graag een Mongools kindje willen adopteren. Nu is over het algemeen de
regelgeving wat dat betreft al wat ondoorzichtig, maar na onderzoek is
gebleken dat op dit moment überhaupt geen aanvragen in behandeling worden
genomen. Het ministerie werkt hier aan wat informeel een"familie-wet"
wordt genoemd. De verwchting is dat deze wet ergens begin 2004 door het
parliament gaat. Pas nadat de nieuwe wet is aangenomen ...
Neverrest-reis naar Mongolië

Nederlands-Mongoolse woordenlijst

Op initiatief van mevr. Violet Bonnet en door bemiddeling van het Mongools
Consulaat in Amsterdam en Khadag, wordt op dit moment aan een gewerkt. De
woordenlijst is in eerste instantie bedoeld voor Mongoolse scholieren in
Nederland die vaak problemen hebben vanwege de taalbarrière, maar de lijst
zal natuurlijk ook geschikt zijn voor Nederlands-sprekenden die (beter)
Mongools willen leren. Mocht u belangstelling hebben, laat het ons zeker

Mongolian minister to visit Taiwan to discuss labor imports

Mongolian Minister for Social Welfare and Labor Shi Batbayar will visit
Taiwan next week to attend an international meeting and discuss issues
regarding Taiwan's plan to import Mongolian workers, an official said
yesterday. Victor C. Y. Tseng, director-general of the West Asian Affairs
Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Batbayar is scheduled
to arrive in Taipei Monday to attend the 30th Asia-Pacific regional

Russia and the UN World Food Program (WFP) intend to carry out a number of
humanitarian operations, Russian Deputy Emergencies Minister Yury
Brazhnikov told reporters today. This issue was in the highlight of
today's meeting between Russian Emergencies Minister Sergey Shoigu and WFP
Executive Director James Morris. In particular, according to Brazhnikov,
Russia will provide China with $10m in humanitarian aid. Additionally, the

At present there are no official plans to change Mongolia's 1993 religion
law, Forum 18 News Service has been told. Some of its existing restrictive
provisions are apparently unenforced, such as the article prohibiting
religious activities organised outside Mongolia "to introduce foreign
religions within Mongolia." Reportedly Buddhist-backed proposals, however,
have included a ban on all unregistered religious activity and authority
given to local councils to determine ....

gold-mining executive named Myanganbayar, when a member of the band he
sponsors walked into the conference room, wearing a tan velour FUBU
jumpsuit. Myanganbayar was in the process of explaining his business,
Mongol Gazar, Mongolia's second-largest gold-mining company and the
employer of 700 people. He mines two tons of gold a year and has revenues

van Mongolië, met als doel de traditionele cultuur levend te houden.
Ze brengen vooral traditionele muziek, maar ook werk van hedendaagse
Mongoolse componisten. Sommige stukken zijn kamermuziek, andere hebben
dan weer de betoverende originele kracht. Je kan bijna het geluid
horen van de hoeven van de Mongoolse paarden, op wiens rug Genghis
Khan het grootse rijk stichtte dat ooit heeft bestaan. Dan weer brengt

Mongolian allegedly detained in China

According to a report in Onoodor, a Mongolian
citizen was detained on Wednesday by officers at Tianjin, China, as
a suspect for trafficking Mongolian girls and women. The man, aged
40, was accompanied by two girls in their late teens on a ship bound
for Japan. In a routine check, port officials found two additional
passports, belonging to women, in his possession. The General Police
Department said that they have not yet received this information or
any related statement from China. END

Microphone Awards to feature family songs

The Golden Microphone awards will be held on December
12 in the concert hall of the UB Palace. Previously, only pop and
rock artists could participate in the Golden Microphone music festival,
but this year it includes awards for family songs, such as best composer,
best male and female singers, best album, and best family song lyrics.

Before 1921, Mongolians recognised a living Buddha
as ruler, so the discovery of a legitimate successor to the last ruler
has not been viewed with enthusiasm by the present-day government,
Forum 18 News Service has found. An anonymous Buddhist source told
Forum 18 that the government does not permit Jetsun Dhampa IX to visit
Mongolia as "They are scared that he will lay claim to power
here." Jetsun Dhampa has, however, maintained that he has "no

Donors pledge $335 mil to Mongolia

TOKYO — Mongolia received $335 million in aid
pledges for next year at an international donors' meeting that ended
Friday in Tokyo, allowing it to shift its focus to longer-term development
from economic transition, organizers said. As the largest single donor
among the 16 countries and 14 international organizations at the meeting,
Japan pledged 4.6 billion yen (about $42.2 million) in grants, including
1.8 billion yen in technical assistance, a Japanese official said.

Nuclear-free North Korea, according to Mongolia

TOKYO, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Pyongyang is predicting
a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, the Mongolian prime minister said
on Friday after meeting senior officials in the North Korean capital
earlier this week. "North Korea sees this peninsula free of nuclear
weapons," Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar told journalists
in Tokyo following an international conference on economic aid for
his country. "Maybe it will be a complex, but not too long way
to reach this goal," he added....

WASHINGTON : The United States thanked Mongolia
for its help in choking off terrorist financing and combating money
laundering, as Vice Foreign Minister Sukhbaataryn Batbold met senior
US officials. "The US and Mongolia affirmed their commitment
to cooperate on the war on terror and Operation Iraqi Freedom,"
said State Department spokesman Richard Boucher. "US officials
commended Mongolia's success in democratization and economic reform
and expressed appreciation for their partnership....

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has congratulated
Maldives’ national soccer team on their victory over Mongolia on Saturday
in the first leg of the World Cup 2006 prequalifiers. Tropical Maldives
won 1-0 against Mongolia in the match played under heavy snowfall
in the frozen Mongolian capital Ulan Bator. Gayoom telephoned national
team manager Ahmed Shahir Saturday evening and said that he was immensely
happy for the team’s victory....

Werken in het land van yaks en paarden || door Susan Visser || De vlammen van
de kachel lichten op nu de schemering invalt en ik voel de gloed van het
kolenvuur op mijn gezicht branden. Hoewel het nog maar net oktober is zal het
vannacht weer gaan vriezen en als ik naar buiten had kunnen kijken, had ik de
eerste sneeuw kunnen zien liggen op de anders groene heuvels van Mongolië. Ik
heb nog twee hele jaren in het vooruitzicht hier. Twee jaar om als
vrijwilliger les te geven in Ulaanbaatar...

year old icon of Buddhism in Mongolia passed away

Dharamsala 6, November: One of the most revered Buddhist figures of Ladakh,
Kyabje Bakula Rinpoche, breathed his last on the morning of 4 November. The
Central Tibetan Administration held a mourning session at the Kashag hall
which was attended by the Kalon Tripa and his colleagues in the Kashag and
issued a statement of condolence.

The Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes has condoled the demise of Kushak
Bakula. In his condolence message Shri Fernandes said that in the death of
Kushak Bakula, the country has lost a great patriot and the people of
Leh-Ladakh have lost the person who did yeoman service to them. As India’s
ambassador to Mongolia he became an icon in that country commanding respect
bordering on worship from the rulers and the ruled.
